Profile of Mel Morris CBE

Mel Morris is best known as an early backer and Chairman of King Digital, the firm behind the globally successful mobile game Candy Crush Saga. He was on King’s board from 2003 to 2014 through a NYSE IPO and sale to Activision Blizzard in 2016 for $6bn.

A gifted entrepreneur, Mel also developed the dating website uDate from 1999 and saw it become the world’s second largest site of its kind with 150 million members with a NYSE IPO. Other successes have included Minitech, the pioneers of Intelligent Disk Array Technology, Prevx the advanced cyber intrusion prevention experts, Prometrics for PC and the Mickleover Court Hotel. Overall, the businesses he has founded, financed, developed and managed are collectively worth more than $6 billion.

Now principally an investor and philanthropist – he founded the MSTART Medical, Sports and Research Technology Trust, is a Platinum Patron of The Prince’s Trust and supports the Derby Hospitals Charity – Mel is the current owner and chairman of Derby County Football Club. He also has local investments in BriefYourMarket, Entotem and Serious Sports Technology Ltd and has led initiatives into robotics and youth development with Derby University, which has awarded him an Honorary Doctorate.

Mel has succeeded through determination and smart business acumen, and from starting a career as a tile and flooring manager in Spain he is now ranked on the Sunday Times Rich List. Having invested several million £GBP in Adthena he is now bringing his entrepreneurial expertise and business insight to the company as we expand into the UK, US and Australian markets.
